I became hooked on pastels in February of this year. My decision to try them
coincided with the first of what is now a regular and very popular weekly thread
on WetCanvas! where pastellists sketch to a time limit, ideally from direct observation.
Daily studies of even the simplest subjects from life enabled me to get to know my
medium surprisingly quickly, and I came to love their vibrancy, immediacy and versatility.

My first attempt was a single egg; since then I've tackled everything from shallots to
skulls to pomegranates to flower pots. Using pastels, I have developed a passion for
still life, for what has perhaps best been described as its 'quiet beauty'.

The enthusiasm and support of my pastelling friends online has been invaluable to me
over these past six months. Now I'm hooked on the forum as well!!

"Opening a box of pastels is like opening a box of "eye candy."
Painting with these deep rich colors to the lightest of lights
is like painting with a rainbow.

Wet Canvas and the Pastel Forum has been a tremendous help to me over the past few months - so much encouragement, friendship,
technical advice and just plain fun. You couldn't meet a better bunch of people!

Pastels are my favorite medium right now. I love being
able to use all the colors and variety of pastel types.
Pastels make me feel as if I have some control over what
I am painting. The colors are rich and vibrant.

I did this painting "on location" which pleased me
immensely. It has only been with the support and
encouragement of everyone here at WC that I have gotten
to the point that I am able to do that. People always
have such wonderful, helpful comments. I don't feel like
my paintings are really done till I have shown them here
and have the "okay" of my fellow pastellists.

People here are so open and willing to share. It has
been a terrific experience being a part of WC over the
last fews months. I think I have learned more here than
in all the years before.
