14x16 Unison Pastels Black Art Spectrum Paper Artist: Tonia Osborn WC username: Redsy333 | ![]() |
| I chose this picture because I love to paint portraits. I want to render more than just
a face, I want to portray their emotions as well. Each face tells a story, the trick is to find the beauty behind those stories. For me, pastels are an extension of my inner child. They allow me to create and play at the same time. I always loved to draw and wished to paint, for as long as I can remember, but never had the patience or ability like I wanted. Then one day I was introduced to pastels, they were a dream come true!! Finally a medium that combined painting and drawing, with very little restrictions. Pastels are so versatile, that almost anyone can create a work of art, that will last a lifetime. Tonia Osborn www.toniaosborn.com |

| Size = 60cm x 50cm (24ins x 20ins)
Support = Black Stonehenge 245gsm Brand of pastel = Conte and Winsor & Newton mainly artist: Tom Macbeth WC username: crumbedbrains Ok this was early on in my association with WC and was done as a relatively lengthy WIP, in which the support of the WC members was tremendous. The painting was done from a photo (the frog itself), some live props (the large brown leaf and the long slender green leaves), and a fair amount right out of my head (the branch and other leaves). It won Highly Commended at the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia Annual Exhibition of 2002 and has been chosen to be included in the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals) Annual Calendar for 2004 and more recently as the cover photo for promotional pamphlets for the same organization. I’m pleased to share this piece of art. My primary medium of choice is soft pastel - I love the tactile nature – the immediacy – the rich and pure colors!!! I paint about 6 days a week on average and find that my technique shifts according to the subject matter and the music I play. Portraits and figures are still my favorite pieces to paint though I look forward to branching out in the upcoming year. What also makes pastels wonderful is the support I receive from WC and the Pastel Forum. Initially I was slow to post my work. There are some awesome artists in this group and I learn from each and every one as I read the posts. The ability to receive so much input on types of pastels, blending, papers, and techniques of application is what makes this so great. bnoonan |
