| I first tried pastels as a teenager and loved them
immediately. I like their directness, the vibrancy of the color, and their portability. With pastels it's a little easier to resist the tendency to overwork a painting to death. After a three-decade hiatus from doing much of my own art, I tentatively started back with pastels, then stumbled on the best motivator of all, WetCanvas! The Pastel Forum is the friendliest, most supportive art club I could imagine, with pastellists of every range of experience, from all over the world. In the time between first discovering pastels and my own personal pastel Renaissance, I have become allergic to dust, and now have to use a dust mask. Consequently, I have been experimenting with oil pastels, and am beginning to achieve similar results with them, minus the dust. It had been good to share information and experiences with other WC members also jumping on the oil pastel bandwagon. Wendy Manning |

| This was the first 'face/skin' that started to look like what I wanted to
achieve, alive and real. I love pastel pencils, as they give me the control and detail that I like. The only 'draw' back is that they take an age to cover a large expanse of paper... but definitely good for anyone starting out and seeing and feeling what can be done with pastels. Dark_Shades |
