Size: 15 x 11 inches Support: black Somerset Velvet oil pastels Artist: Maureen Rich WC username: Mo. WIP Thread I chose this because although maybe not my best painting, it was my first serious piece of work using oil pastels. I've been using oil pastels for a just a few months and I am still experimenting and trying to master them. I also miss using my soft pastels, so will not part with them in the hope that now and then I can paint with them. Whether using soft or oil pastels, the 'feel' of holding the pigment in your hand is what it's all about to me, being that much closer and in tune with the medium makes a huge difference...... Of course getting messy is a bonus. To anyone who hasn't tried pastels, whether soft or oil, I'll say you don't know what you are missing. Wet Canvas to me is the best art club in the world, where else can you find the wealth of variety and information other than here? That's not to mention the friends that you make and all the expert advice and tutorials. Long may it reign! Mo. |

| I prefer to use pastels over any other medium because they are vibrant and very 'hands on'. The feel of the pastels as you paint is a lovely experience. You can apply them as thinly or thickly as you desire without using additives, and underpaintings in watercolour or acrylic can introduce a different effect.
I enjoy the Pastel Forum because the people are friendly and supportive. This is definitely a 'feel good' place to be as there is a lot of back-slapping and very rarely any hand-slapping. We have a lot of fun and jostling but when there is a need we are hugged over the net and loved. Carol Aston, New Zealand |

| Some years ago my hubby’s aunt gave me a small box of Eberhard Faber Nupastels.
She had used them for a short time so they were just like new. At that time I was struggling learning how to paint with oils. One day I decided to play around with the pastels making hatching and blending marks on some charcoal paper. To make a long statement shorter it’s been such a rewarding medium to work with. I don’t work with pastel solely, but do find it an old friend to return to now and then. I really enjoy being a contributing poster to ‘The Pastel Forum’ and plan to be as long as there is a ‘Wet Canvas’. Speaking of ‘Wet Canvas’ without them there would be no ‘Pastel Forum’. It’s been a wonderful relationship and I’m so pleased to be a part of such an educational community. I have made some lasting friendships and viewed some absolutely outstanding artwork in all forums. Had a place to show my artwork and get help with that work if requested. I feel I have learned a lot about art and plan to learn more. Kathy Robbins http://members.tripod.com/krobbins4art/ |
