I started using soft pastels early last year and more or
less stumbled upon oil pastels early this year.
They seemed somewhat more difficult to handle than the
soft pastels and I regarded it a bit of a challenge to
see what could be achieved with them.

The Pastel forum on WC is an active and friendly forum
that can be of great help to anybody wanting
information, critiques or tips and a great place for
getting feedback on your work.

I started painting the end of Jan 01. A friend told me about Wet Canvas and that was the best info I’ve ever received.
Wet Canvas has helped me in so many ways to develop as an artist. The artists on WC are so helpful, and sometimes pushy, but that’s a good thing, because it helps me do my best. Working with others in the same medium taught me a great deal.

The Pastel Forum got me to try my hand at those wonderful pieces of chalk. And boy what a wonderful mess you can get. I love pastels and I haven’t touched my oils for about 9 months now. (I need to do that) But I’m so hooked on pastels. I like being able to get the detail I can’t from a paintbrush.
I like the blending you can do with pastels. My next venture is oil pastels. But pastels are so easy to pick up and quit when you want. That’s really important to me. Thanks to all of you in the Pastel forum for all your help and pushy attitudes LOL!

I love the vibrant look of pastels. It’s so easy to stop & start. There’s no drying time
to wait for or wondering if it will dry too fast. Just leave things there when you need
to stop and it’s ready right away when you have a few minutes to come back to it.

The Pastel Forum is my life-line. The local art group I started with has disbanded.
About the only contact I have with other artists is through the forum. It has been
invaluable for lessons, advice, and support. It’s a very positive helpful group.
I have learned so much from the other artists.
