"I paint figures because I can't paint trees! At least not very well. I go to figure sessions weekly to learn more about painting, color, composition, etc. It also helps to be with fellow artists and see what they are doing."

"For me figure drawing is a way to bring paper to life. It keeps me connected to the elements and the powers above. To show something that seems to posses a spirit, yet it came from my imagination. It is very spiritual and fulfilling. It's almost like watching a rose grow from the flat surface of the earth."

"The female figure is one of my favourite subjects. I love the curves and twists of it, and the way it responds to different crops and techniques. I see the figure as part of the design element in a painting, rather than striving for anatomical accuracy. This may be considered heresy....."

"I have always struggled to express myself verbally, so I partially compensate for this by using images. Painting and drawing the figure from life has given me the opportunity to hone my observational skills and to move forward as an artist. I enjoy painting within a group of people, all different ages, from different walks of life, all coming together with the same intent."

"For me, there is nothing more amazing and inspiring than people. I love to watch them, study them, and paint them. Capturing the limitless complexity of the human form is a source of constant inspiration and fascination for me, and the figure, particularly the subtleties and nuances of the female form, never fails to challenge and engage me."
