"Making an Eggshell Finish Gallery Wrap Canvas"

Apply acrylic gesso liberally to the canvas. I use a 25mm (1in) brush. Make sure all areas, including the sides, are well covered. Let dry. Sand the surface lightly. I use 600 grade wet and dry sandpaper. I wet the surface with the paint brush and then sand, doing a small area at a time. Let dry. Apply the second coat of gesso. Sand and let dry. Apply a third coat, let dry and sand.

When dry the surface will feel smooth, very much like an egg shell, hence the name "egg shell finish". This is a good surface to paint on and can overcome many of the problems canvas can cause.

The photo shows the finished canvas. You now have a canvas ready for your next masterpiece!
This shows how the gallery wrap appears when hung.
