![]() | Here is a shot showing Scott's finished oil study. The background foliage on those distant islands is a bit "tall", and not as recessed as it should be. Hmm. Looks like a lesson learned! This is a quick study, and it has served its purpose well!
TIP: When painting beach scenes, try not to walk on the sand where it appears in your composition. The footprints will interrupt the natural flow of light across the sand! |
![]() | Here, you can see Scott's painting, securely attached to the back of the french easel, ready for transport. If you haven't seen my recent article on plein aire packing, and would like more information on how I rigged my Studiopack carrier around my easel to facilitate the carrying of wet panels/canvases, click here.
We had a great time on the island, but lunchtime was upon us! We headed back to the dock, enjoyed a quick bite to eat, and got ready for our afternoon challenge, Cane Creek! |
![]() | Cane Creek is a small creek which runs nearby, and eventually feeds into Lake Keowee. Based on Tom's initial scouting report, we felt like this area had the potential for some great plein air'ing!
To the left, Tom hiking along on the trail which runs parallel to the creek. |
![]() | There were lots of interesting places along the creek bed – but we were looking for that "aha!" spot. As such, we passed on a number of interesting scenes. |
![]() | Here is an interesting shot showing the backlit sun poking through the canopy of trees above us. However, this was still no "aha!" spot. |
