"Papier Mache' Rainmaker"

Author: Leaflin, Contributing Editor

About 15 years ago my daughter was given a rain stick made from a cactus.
During a move the rain stick became damaged and rather than throw it out I decided to fix it.
As I was working on it, I thought, "Hey, I could make one of these out of a cardboard tube and papier mache".
This article will share the steps for making one!

The odd thing is that every time I make one of these.....it rains!
So mine is called a "Rainmaker".
Well let’s get started.

SUPPLIES
Cardboard tube
Glue
Wallpaper Paste
2 colours of 20 to 40 lb weight paper
(kraft, butchers, utility, copier)
Aquarium Gravel or rice
Wooden Skewers
Metal Skewer or gimlet
Masking tape
Gesso
Acrylic paints

The first step is to mark your tube.
I marked mine with a black marker,
tracing the oblique line on the cylinder.
Next, with a red marker, draw a line
running along side the first line as shown
in the photo.

The next step is to make holes in the
tube.
I used a metal skewer or gimlet with a
handle on it.
