| Center of Bud - Method Two
Using a covered piece of wire, make a very small loop in one end and then dip into the pot of glue… then stand in holder. Take a small ball of the mixture and roll into a small oblong, press this flat in the palm of your hands making the top edge the finest. Starting at the right side of the oblong, fold it over the wire to form a peak and then continue to roll the rest of the oblong round the peak once. This should form the center of the bud and the first tight leaf. If this does not look right, remove it from the wire and re-mold the bud; it may take a couple of attempts to get the hang of it initially. If you are working on a single rosebud, you will only need one or two more petals. |
| Petals
Work on each individual petal forming a small ball of mixture; press out to a petal shape. Try and get the creases from the palm of the hand onto each petal…look at your reference model. This will guide you as to how many petals you need to stick on and in what position. I usually wind the bud, then add 3 petals around the bud and 5 petals around the outside, overlapping them as I go. |
| The Calyx
To finish the rosebuds and open roses, each one needs a calyx. To make the calyx, roll a small ball of the green colored mixture and divide into 5 equal parts with the scissors. Using the round shaping tool, elongate each of these by rolling over the side of the finger. These will have blunt ends and need to be rolled in to make the ends pointed. If you are making larger flowers, you can use the scissors to snip up the sides and make them realistic; however, on smaller flowers these will be too delicate. |
| Leaves
The leaves are made by taking a small amount of the green mixture and shaping roughly into a leaf shape. You can either press them onto a mould to give a veined effect or use a large fresh leaf and press it into the mixture. Thin the edges by rolling with the round tool a little. Use the scissors to snip around the edges if you like. A wire is then dipped into the glue and layed on the centre front of the leaf. Fold over and nip the wire between the leaf; then, open the front. The wire should be hidden in a little ridge on the back of the leaf if you have done this correctly. |
