Method For Making the Porcelain Mixture

Mix the cornstarch with the water and glue in a saucepan and add the glycerin. Mix well with the spoon until it is smooth and liquid.
Put the pan on the stove and heat…stirring all the time. The minute the liquid goes thick and changes color, remove from the heat…keep stirring vigorously and remove any mixture stuck to the bottom of the pan.

You can also make this in the microwave if you have an old one that will not be used for cooking food. Otherwise, you will need to wash the microwave thoroughly after use. Remember...the glue contains strong chemicals!

Turn the mixture out onto a work top…add a few drops of Formol (Formol is a poison so you must take care!) It may be best to wear vinyl gloves, knead it and allow it to cool slightly. Pour a little hand lotion onto the mixture and also plenty on your hands. Start to knead the mixture as you would bread. Once it loses its lumpy appearance and is smooth and fine, shape it into a sausage shape and cover with cling-film to exclude the air, then pack into several plastic bags to keep it as air-tight as possible. Once the dough comes in contact with the air, it will start to dry and become unworkable.

At this stage, you can divide the mixture into smaller amounts and tint it lightly with a little of the paint. Be careful to not get the color too dark, because it will darken slightly as it dries.
Unwrap your mixture from cling film and remove a walnut sized piece. Keep the remainder wrapped tightly to avoid drying.
Using a covered piece of wire, make a very small loop in one end, dip it into the pot of glue, then stand it upright in holder.
To Make a Flower

Roses are one of the easiest flowers to create and it requires the absolute minimum of tools. When making a flower, it is best to have the original flower to study or a good reference photo. I used live flowers for my original study, but many roses later, I can now work from a reference photo. Join me in creating your own roses!
Center of Bud - Method One

Take a small ball from your mixture and roll it into a pear shape in your hands, cut the pointed end open with the scissors and insert the wire…once again, form the mixture into a pear shape around the wire. Return to the holder.

Take another ball of mixture, roll it between your palms until round, then using the thumb of one hand press the ball flat and form into a petal. Make the top edge as fine as possible and also make the petal slightly concave in shape. Add glue to the bottom of the petal and stick it over the ball, joining each side to make a peak over the ball. If this does not look right, roll the paste into a ball and start again; you may need to practice once or twice.
The small ball shape has had one more petal attached.
