| Mix up some french ultramarine and burnt umber to make a blue grey, paint in the distant hills. When finished and before the paint dries fully run a clean brush along the highest peak to lift some paint and give the impression of mist. |

| Make a stronger mix ( less water ) of burnt umber with a touch of french ultramarine to darken. Have a piece of plastic ready to manipulate the wet paint. Paint the total area of rocks, then use the plastic to scrap the paint about 1/2 inch movement at a time, vary the strokes so you produce rock shapes as the moved paint produces lighter areas and the heaped paint goes darker. You can continue manipulating the paint as long as it is still damp. |
