| First we paint the sky using a mix of ultramarine with a touch of alizarin crimson to produce a blue/purple. We will use the same mix for the mist later in the painting so mix up a reasonable quantity in a separate palette that you can store until later. Turn your board upside down and have it tilted at about 15 degrees raised at the back. Apply the wash working from the mountain line towards you to the top of your board. The tilt will make the paint seep down and a bead of paint will form at the paint edge as you apply each stroke so it will not dry out. Wipe the excess drips off with a piece of tissue. Leave the board tilted and allow to dry. |
![]() | Have your blue/mauve mix ready and check that the sky is completely dry. Turn your board around and wet the paper with clean water using a mop brush from the mountain line down to the lake edge. You can see in the image the surface of the paper shines when it has been wet with clear water. |
