![]() | Many people use books to press the plastic into the paper to create texture. I always put a board over the area before adding books so the pressure is the same all across the paper.

| After leaving the painting to dry for 48 hours I remove everything that was placed over the painting, and this is what appeared.

![]() | Looking over the jewel toned colors I search for images within the textures. I decide to work on the lower left corner where I see the bust of a figure.

| Allowing the texture and shapes made by the plastic to lead me I begin to pick out detail. I do not think about the colors. Whatever comes to mind at the moment when I look at an area is what I use. | ![]() |
| Now things in other parts of the picture begin to pop out, and I lay the groundwork around the area to mask it off, so to speak. I will not fill in detail until other things begin to come out, and I can see how the overall piece will look in my mind. It is important to me to have a general idea of where I am going with a piece, even in abstract. I like to work the whole piece at one time instead of in bits and pieces. This is the time consuming part to me. Some pieces open up to me as soon as I remove the plastic while others take a little pruning to bring out the qualities I see.
This area on the right shows potential faces in my minds eye. I mask around it in color to separate it a bit from the background. |
