Heat the end of the glass until it begins to flow, and then quickly touch a tiny portion of the hot glass to the mandrel and pull the glass back so it thins out just a little. Start winding that glass on the mandrel in a shape as close to a pizza as you can. Heat the glass behind where you are winding the molten glass onto the mandrel to enable it to get soft enough and flow enough to keep winding. It does not matter how unevenly you wind the glass on the mandrel. We will fix that later. An important part of our glass working technique is being able to save almost all your mistakes.
Once you have wound the glass on the mandrel then reheat the glass pizza shape.
Take a pair of tweezers and put the pizza between the legs of the tweezers and squeeze, then turn the bead, squeeze then turn, all the way around the bead, squeezing the bead between the tweezer legs to even up the sides.
