Watercolor Painting, My Way!: Sunsets and Silhouettes L3/4

Author: Rod Webb, Associate Editor

We will add some more alizarin crimson over the yellow wash. We allowed the paper to dry completely. Now re-wet the surface again, this time just halfway down with clean water. Apply your crimson across the top edge and allow it to seep down. Add another stroke across the paper as before until the wash is about one third down.

While still wet I loaded a smaller round brush with a thicker mix of crimson and added a couple of quick strokes across the paper and allowed the paint to merge. We now lay flat and allow to dry completely. Your paper should now have a rich warm orange at the bottom produced by applying the crimson over the yellow.

We will now use our photo's. print them out and cut around the rocks and cormorant leaving a small margin. Using graphite transfer paper draw around the top edge of rock outline and the cormorant. This will  produce a faint outline as shown above.
