Watercolor Painting, My Way!: Sunsets and Silhouettes L2/4

We have to work fairly fast so the paper does not dry out, if at this stage it has started to dry. Leave alone, dry completely and then re-wet before continueing.

We now turn the board upside down,we  still have it at 15 degrees. Start a wash with your yellow allowing it to seep down again towards the center as before on the wet surface.

Work your way down the paper, applying each stroke across the paper and overlapping  the  paint each time on  the previous stroke.

If the yellow is running down too far then turn the board upright again and you will see the colours seep downwards. You can manouver the colour washes this way by tilting the board while wet , lay flat to dry when you are happy with the placement. If too much liquid builds up along the edges wipe excess off with a tissue.

Now lay your paper down flat and let it dry completely. You can use a hairdryer to speed up the process, but not too close or you will blow the wet wash of paint across the surface.

You should now have a graduated wash as shown running from blue through crimson to yellow with soft transitions between the colours.
