Watercolor Painting, My Way!: Still Life, Bowl of Fruit: L2/12

Author: Rod Webb, Associate Editor

Graphite transfer lines were rubbed out using a putty rubber. It will not be possible to remove lines completely, so don't rub too hard! :-)

Here is my limited palette of 8 colors. It is best to work with a reduced number of colors and get to know their properties well.

Before we start the main painting, I would like you to run through a few simple exercises with me, using the wet-into-wet watercolor technique.

Wash of cadmium yellow painted onto dry paper. Before the first wash dries, drop in a stronger mix of green.
Paint can be manipulated with a brush while it is wet. You can see a soft blended edge forming here in the image to the left.
