A mix of burnt umber and ultramarine was used to paint shadow side of rock.
Make sure you use the side of the brush to produce a broken edge on the inner edge of shadow. |

Using the same mix, other shadows were painted in the hollows of the rock. |

Continue to add shadows and paint thin lines to indicate the cracks in the rock surface. |

After the first shadows are dry, add a touch more ultramarine to darken the mix.
Shadows and cracks were darkened in places using this mix. |
