Before this dried a touch of our darker blue grey mix was added to darker some areas and give a variation of color, Left side by lily pads was darkened the most. Yellow ochre mix also ready. A cotton stick is used to lift some paint while it is still damp, this will produce some light areas also.

Using the mix of mainly burnt umber the water was painted.

While this was still slightly damp, place a piece of blotting paper along the rear edge of water and lift some paint to lighten, as this area will contain the reflections of the rocks later in the painting.

Mix a light green using raw sienna and cobalt blue, also add some ultra marine to give a darker shade so we have two greens for the lily pads.

Lily pads first painted with the light green, while wet add the dark green inplaces and also a touch of yellow ochre, this will give the look of late season leaves slighty burnt by the sun.
