Well, I see that slackard Hagan finally got some lessons online. About time and I quess - if he and Elliott want to live off my fame, I guess its okay.
Rocks have always been a sort of bane for many artists. But with a little technique..well, they can be quite simple. Hope this helps the next time you are stuck on rocks. Enjoy, and keep those emails a comin', folks! Pierre (pierre@wetcanvas.com) |

The form of the rock was established with light and dark warm grays on a beige or tan background and allowed to dry completely before applying the texture. |

The texture here was put on with a small complexion sponge that had been dipped in a dark gray color and gently patted on to desired areas. |

Using the same technique the highlights areas of the rock was added with a pale light blue. The painting must be completely dry between each step. |

Using a toothbrush to which color has been added and dragging a stiff cardboad across it, the black speckled effect is added bringing the painting to completion.
This method of getting textures may be used in oil painting, watercolor, or acrylics. |
