QuikTip #12: Drawing a Jaguar

Author: Pierre Labeau, Contributing Editor

I receive a lot of mail asking for tips on drawing and painting animals! There is something strangely fascinating about animals. Let me try to pass along a few tips that may help you in your quest. Try this big cat on for size!

Oh, and by the way, I see that my favorite slackard Elliot finally has a new lesson up (the one on painting a loaf of bread). Not bad for a slackard. He may have some redeeming value yet!  I will take it easy on him this week.

Keep those emails a comin', folks!

Profiles are always easiest to draw so let's do him first in that format. As with everything we draw, start by sketching in the basic geometric shapes.

Finish him off with a no. 3 brush and some India ink or watercolor.

Now let's do him in not quite full face, but in a little less than 1/4 face. just follow the steps!

And there you have him! I hope this will help the next time you want to put one in your painting, or maybe just do a painting of him!
