| Starting with a drawing showing the general shape of an ice cube with the secondary lights indicated we progress through the various stages and degrees of finish, searching constantly for lights, darks, and color that will help give the impression of ice. |

| After completing the ice it was impossible to determine whether it was a fifty pound cake or a cube from the refrigerator. In order to give it it's proper scale the section of lime was added, which also added color to an otherwise monochromatic scheme. Be sure to have an understudy standing by; your model is inclined to melt away! |

| Some subjects are more challenging than others. Among them, the interpretation of ice may be pretty high on the list. We do not have the use of reflections as we do when we are painting water. Nor do we have a dark and light side as in most subjects. |
