Creating a Roadside Masterpiece

Author: Larry Seiler, Contributing Editor

The next step is nearly as haphazaard as the ragging in. Working impasto thick paint with a palette knife. I am working feverishly, like a madman.

A rhythm is coming together, and the passing of cars and trucks behind me is all but lost. That is until someone blasts their horn just to let you know you're being watched!

The shoreline has a variety of shrubs and trees, with the sun playing a great deal of texture and color against each other.

The knife allows me to mix colors rapidly, and is easy to clean with a swift wipe against a rag held in one hand's palm. I use the edge of the blade to pick up color, and suggest branches and shrubs.

I use the tip to suggest foilage strongly lit up by the sun.
