Sketching - Dictation from Life (L6/11)

I've balanced a sketchbook on my lap and have taken my trusty ballpoint pen in hand. I start with a circular motion to capture the volume and shape of the boot's top and something of the boot itself.

I quickly build up the form and suggest values keeping the pen moving at all times. I begin with a light grip on the pen to begin the sketch, and end with fairly intense heavy pressure. I squint my eyes to determine darkest darks for contrast sake and build that up. Again...this is all happening very rapidly. Remember...this is an exercise. No pain no gain. I push myself deliberately.
